I.05 Anghiari
An ancient farmhouse unfolds across four staggered levels and is located at the top of a hill in the heart of the Tuscan Val Tiberina. Built in different periods, with some sections dating back to the 14th century, the building has been renovated and furnished according to a conservation driven approach that preserves its historical stratifications. The structure is built in mixed masonry of stone and brick and is characterized by a sequence of small rooms divided by thick walls, with terracotta floors and pietra serena stone in the former stable areas, once used as watering troughs. The four levels follow the irregular slope of the surrounding land, providing independent openings to the outside; each of these portions has been designed to accommodate a bathroom, a bedroom, and a common area. The renovation involved restoring parts of the original flooring in the kitchen and bathroom areas and finishing the old walls with lime based plaster.
The choice to use a single material for the furnishings a semi finished product consisting of a birch plywood core clad on both sides with solid oak aims to create a sense of continuity throughout the interiors. Following the same logic, wooden platforms placed in the common areas host the sofas, creating slightly raised zones. The dining tables in the living area and on the outdoor patio are made of solid oak and teak, featuring a joinery system specially designed for the client. Bookcases, desks, wardrobes, and shelving units are part of the studio’s collections and have been crafted from this distinctive layered wood material, which enhances strength and durability over time. The kitchen, also from the Giacomo Moor collection and fitted with a QuadroDesign mixer, is defined by a large countertop with an integrated Botticino marble sink.
