I.03 Crocetta, Milano
Three Milanese apartments, designed for Fondazione Elpis, with a very regular layout are transformed into residences for artists to be lived and inhabited by people coming from places of heterogeneous cultures. The inclusion of our furnishings, rethought and adapted to the context and its needs, wants to create an element of continuity between the various environments through the almost obsessive repetition of the theme of interlocking, also expressed in different ways on types of furnishings distant from each other. Thus dry-assembled solid wood tables, benches and beds alternate with storage shelves in which the construction system is explicitly declared or with suspended wooden platforms in which orthogonal planes are intersect to generate seating systems.
The main material, oak wood, adapts perfectly to the structural characteristics of the furnishings and, a chromatic level, helps to define a coherent language. The inclusion of colours, never used arbitrarily, identifies portions of furniture that for various reasons require specific treatment: soft linoleum and resistant, it protects table and desk tops; the laminate, easily washable, covers kitchen doors and wardrobes; stone, hard and waterproof, characterizes the kitchen tops; the natural fabric, removable and washable, designs sofa upholstery. A recurring color tone has been applied to each apartment with different shades and saturations, in the various materials combined with oak.
